This group of prospects is very eccentric and star studded. I honestly see all of them developing into great stars for their teams.
Born: Scottsdale, AZ
Weight: 216 lbs.
Our Projection: 1st overall, Toronto Maple Leafs
Auston Matthews is the consensus number one overall pick. The pride of Scottsdale will be a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and they’re lucky to have him. He has quick hands and feet. He’s the complete package of a forward. Accelerates quickly, amazing goal scorer, fantastic confidence. Really a generation talent to the likes of Connor McDavid. He will be an elite center in 5 years.
Born: Chateauguay, QC
Weight: 174 lbs.
Our Projection: 34th overall, Columbus Blue Jackets
Laberge is a pain to face on the ice. Similar to Milan Lucic. He’s a tough 2-way forward with great hockey sense. He creates havoc the second he steps on the ice. Wins board battles and is very physical. He usually passes more than he scores. His defensive game can be compared to Jonathan Toews. He’d be higher in the draft, but his weight is a little low for his type of player. Once he bulks up he has the potential to be a great player.
Born: Calgary, AB
Weight: 179 lbs.
Our Projection: 6th overall, Calgary Flames
This kid has some filthy offensive skills. He easily finds scoring chances anywhere on the ice. Gets to the hard areas of the ice. He has an amazing shot. He’s going to develop into a phenomenal playmaker.
Born: Farmington Hills, MI
Weight: 165 lbs.
Our Projection: 33rd overall, Florida Panthers
DeBrincat is a very small player, only 5’7”. But he possesses a natural skill set with that of Steven Stamkos. Has very dynamic skills. He’s a pure sniper. He put up 50 goals twice in the OHL. He’s recovered from injury well, his size is what’s keeping him lower on the draft boards. Although he’s small, he can get scrappy.
Born: Boca Raton, FL
Weight: 198 lbs.
Projection: 12th overall, Ottawa Senators
Great 2-way defenseman. He possesses elite skating ability. Can get very physical, will assert his dominance in every zone of the ice. He directs the play up the ice. His shot is not one you want to be in front of. Amazing power play on the forecheck. Great awareness. Has the potential to be a generational defenseman.
Born: Ham Lake, MN
Weight: 212 lbs.
Projected: 21st overall, Carolina Hurricanes
Uses his tremendous size to dominate the ice. Has a great eye for scoring chances, and will not hesitate to take them. Drives to the net, frustrating goal tenders, and setting himself up for multiple tip-ins. Can screen the goalie with ease. Like Arizona Coyotes player, Max Domi, Tufte plays the game with diabetes. Given Tufte’s rankings, it hasn’t slowed him down.
